Why Stars Like Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney Love Cabo San Lucas

Cabo is a Mexican get-away spot that’s a favorite draw for celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney. In fact, the stars famously rang in the New Year in Cabo San Lucas just two years ago, joined by Justin Theroux, Jimmy Kimmel, John Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt. The most decorated Olympian of all time, swimmer Michael Phelps, has also been seen partying at this top tourist destination.
Much of the attraction to the area is due to its location, known as “Land’s End,” Cabo is right at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. The area has been developed with a line of gated communities and exclusive hotels called the Corridor, which is where many of the Hollywood elite gather. High-end resorts there include Las Ventanas, Esperanza and the One & Only Palmilla.
From December to March every year, movie stars and regular folks alike can enjoy whale-watching. From waterfront resort balconies, pods of whales can be seen having completed their 6,000 mile trip from Alaska to bear their calves in the warm southern waters.
Whether it’s big-game fishing, kayaking or laying prone somewhere on a beach, the area is diverse enough to offer it all, and of course the resorts feature spas, fine dining and a wide range of nightlife and entertainment choices. With some 3 million tourists flocking to the area every year, from families on a budget to honeymooners to Hollywood A-listers, the variety is endless.
Golf fans like George Clooney, for instance, might well be attracted by the world class courses that dot the landscape. The natural desert terrain, reminiscent of Arizona, is made unforgettable with its vivid backdrop of the Sea of Cortez.
Over the years, other celebrities spotted vacationing at Cabos include Fergie and Josh Duhamel, John Travolta, Eva Longoria, and Jennifer Lopez. Although celebrity-sightings aren’t unusual, many of the famous faces choose to stay away from the hordes in private resorts in the Corridor. This potent mix of paradise and privacy is a proven magnet for celebrities on vacation.

The Top 5 Locations For Celebrity Weddings

While some celebrities still rent out medieval Italian castles for their over-the-top weddings, many others are opting for family homes and traditional hometown services, and some just do the deed in secret.
Talk show host Katie Couric was one celebrity who chose an at-home affair. She married her boyfriend of two years, John Molner, a financier, after a two-year engagement and held the June ceremony at their residence in East Hampton, N.Y.

The ceremony for interior designer and TV host, Nate Berkus, and his partner, Jeremiah Brent, was reported to be a gala affair with Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Oz in attendance and the Grammy-award winning singer, Estelle, who performed during the service.
Some stars, though, like Adam Brody and Leighton Meester (who play Seth Cohen in The O.C. and Blair Waldolf in Gossip Girl and got legally hooked earlier this year) are getting married in secret in a bid to avoid paparazzi and publicity. Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas from “Once Upon a Time” is another set of co-stars who wed on the sly, while George Clooney’s ex, Stacy Keibler, chose a beachside ceremony in Mexico for her hush-hush wedding to Jared Pobre in March.
It seems impossible to have a wedding at Disneyland without the world knowing, but “Without a Trace’s” Poppy Montgomery managed it, wedding boyfriend Shawn Sanford there early this year, with all their children in attendance.

When it’s not a private family affair, there is still one top location for see-and-be-seen celebrity weddings: the fifteenth-century Odescalchi Castle, in the small town of Bracciano near Rome, Italy. Ian McKellen Labels Oscars Anti-Gay As Well

Ian McKellen has joined the chorus of a section of the Hollywood community that firmly believes that the Oscars is against diversity. While most of the protesters are rebuking the Academy Awards for completely ignoring the black community from its list of nominations in major categories for the second year in a row, McKellen recently passed a remark on how he thought the awards platform was anti-gay as well.
Ever since the Academy Awards list of nominations were announced, the blatant absence of black candidates in the major categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress is being criticized by many. After all, this is the second year in a row that none of these categories have found a representative of color.
Those who have voiced the loudest protests and have even spoken of boycotting the Academy Awards function altogether include George Clooney, Viola Davis, Spike Lee, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Lupita Nyong’o. And this is only the beginning of a long list of celebrities who are coming out in the open and voicing their dissent.
Surprisingly, even amidst calls to step down as host, Chris Rock has apparently chosen to stay on and complete his task as host of the Academy Awards evening this year, and his publicist has even denied claims that Rock is making changes to his script.

“Regarding Reggie Hudlin’s comments about Chris Rock’s Oscar hosting duties, neither he nor anyone else speaks for Chris. Chris has made no decisions about the content of the show. All will be revealed on February 28th. We will not comment further on this,” said Leslie Sloane. Sloane was making the statement in reference to Reginald Hudlin, one of the producers of the Oscars show, who had stated, “Chris is hard at work. He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room. As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.’”
However, that hasn’t stopped others from weighing in on the situation. “It’s unfortunate that the entire country is a racist country. Even though some people have given great performances in movies, they weren’t even thought about. We’re living in a country that discriminates, and has certain racial tendencies, racist tendencies,” said Danny DeVito.
Spike Lee even took to social media to openly declare his boycott of the Oscar ceremony this year. “My wife, Mrs Tonya Lewis Lee and I will not be attending the Oscar ceremony this coming February. We cannot support it and mean no disrespect to my friends, host Chris Rock and producer Reggie Hudlin, President Isaacs and the Academy. But, how is it possible for the 2nd consecutive year all 20 contenders under the actor category are white? And let’s not even get into the other branches. 40 white actors in 2 years and no flava at all. We can’t act?! WTF!!” Lee wrote.

#OscarsSoWhite… Again. I Would Like To Thank President Cheryl Boone Isaacs And The Board Of Governors Of The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences For Awarding Me an Honorary Oscar This Past November. I Am Most Appreciative. However My Wife, Mrs. Tonya Lewis Lee And I Will Not Be Attending The Oscar Ceremony This Coming February. And Let's Not Even Get Into The Other Branches. 40 White Actors In 2 Years And No Flava At All. We Can't Act?! WTF!! It's No Coincidence I'm Writing This As We Celebrate The 30th Anniversary Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday. Dr. King Said "There Comes A Time When One Must Take A Position That Is Neither Safe, Nor Politic, Nor Popular But He Must Take It Because Conscience Tells Him It's Right". For Too Many Years When The Oscars Nominations Are Revealed, My Office Phone Rings Off The Hook With The Media Asking Me My Opinion About The Lack Of African-Americans And This Year Was No Different. For Once, (Maybe) I Would Like The Media To Ask All The White Nominees And Studio Heads How They Feel About Another All White Ballot. If Someone Has Addressed This And I Missed It Then I Stand Mistaken. As I See It, The Academy Awards Is Not Where The "Real" Battle Is. It's In The Executive Office Of The Hollywood Studios And TV And Cable Networks. This Is Where The Gate Keepers Decide What Gets Made And What Gets Jettisoned To "Turnaround" Or Scrap Heap. This Is What's Important. The Gate Keepers. Those With "The Green Light" Vote. As The Great Actor Leslie Odom Jr. Sings And Dances In The Game Changing Broadway Musical HAMILTON, "I WANNA BE IN THE ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENS". People, The Truth Is We Ain't In Those Rooms And Until Minorities Are, The Oscar Nominees Will Remain Lilly White. (Cont'd)

And now, McKellen, a respected and veteran actor of the Hollywood filmmaking fraternity has even gone to the extent of labeling the Oscars anti-gay. Moreover, McKellen also stood by his compatriots who were protesting against the lack of diversity in the awards platform, calling the complaints “legitimate”.
“It’s not only black people who’ve been disregarded by the film industry. It used to be women. It’s certainly gay people to this day,” McKellen said while speaking to Sky News. “These are all legitimate complaints,” he said referring to several of his Hollywood counterparts who have raised their voices against the seemingly blatant discrimination against colored members of the film fraternity.
Well, when the number of voices standing up against the alleged discrimination at the Oscars are this many (and growing) one certainly cannot help but sit up and take notice. Whether this will actually translate into anything of consequence is of course another story.

Amal Clooney Fights for Armenia At The European Court Of Justice

Amal Clooney has proven that her marriage to Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney and the associated glamor of tinsel town hasn’t affected her capabilities as a lawyer and human right activist in any way.

The beautiful wife of George Clooney was at the European Court of Justice looking as radiant as ever, but not forgetting her duty towards those who have faced injustice. This time around, Amal is fighting for the Armenian people who are being denied even acknowledgment of a horrific genocide that killed an estimated 1.5 million people. During the time around the First World War, the Ottoman Turks had killed thousands of Armenians but Turkey, always denied the killings as genocide. They blamed it on civil war and even said the numbers were inflated and that the actual number of Armenians killed in the conflict was only about 500,000.
Amal joins a team of lawyers that are particularly handling an appeal associated with the Perincek vs. Switzerland case in relation to the Armenian genocide. The European Court of Human Rights had earlier ruled in favor of Dogu Perincek, the Turkish politician who had denied the genocide in 2005 in Switzerland.
Amidst the drama in the court, a reporter asked Amal an inevitable ‘Hollywood’ question – what was she wearing? Amal, sporting an all-knowing smile and with her trademark confidence simply replied, “I’m wearing Ede and Ravenscroft,” referring to the English tailors that make robes!
Here’s wishing Amal Clooney all the best in her fight for justice!

Bravery, Admiration, Laughter and More, Recapping the Golden Globes 2015

The Golden Globes 2015 wasn’t only about enterainment. There was a lot more depth to the ceremony, and of course, in line with everything Hollywood, there was a healthy dose of glamour and comedy too!
First, let’s take a quick look at the winners in a few major categories.

Boyhood impressed thoroughly, making it to the winner’s list in quite a few. The movie picked up the Best Motion Picture, Drama award while director Richard Linklater and Patricia Arquette, the supporting actress, picked up top honors in their respective categories too. The Grand Budapest Hotel bagged the Golden Globe for the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, The Affair was adjudged the Best Television Drama and Fargo bagged the Globe for the Best Television Miniseries or Movie. Ruth Wilson for The Affair, Joanne Froggatt for Downtown Abbey, Gina Rodriguez for Jane the Virgin, Mathew Bomer for The Normal Heart, Jeffrey Tambor for Transparent, Michael Keaton for Birdman, JK Simmons for Whiplash, Julianne Moore for Still Alice, Billy Bob Thornton for Fargo, Kevin Spacey for House of Cards, Amy Adams for Big Eyes, Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Honorable Woman and Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything made it to the winner’s list in their respective categories too.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the show for the third year in a row and proved why they were the natural, and most popular, choice. The duo took shots at several celebrities, with some of their victims even in the audience. They didn’t even spare the super-charming George Clooney, duly taking into account his recent wedding to Amal Clooney. “She’s a human rights lawyer and was an adviser and selected for a three person UN commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza strip. So, of course, tonight her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award,” said Fey, sending the audience, as well as the power couple, into yet another round of laughter.
The two didn’t refrain from taking on controversial topics too, and the Bill Cosby spectacle was one of them. “I don’t know if you guys saw this on the news today but Bill Cosby has finally spoken out about the allegations against him. Cosby admitted to a reporter, ‘I put the pills in the people. The people did not want the pills in them,’” Fey said, even managing a pretty strong impression of Cosby with Poehler adding to the bit with, “It’s more like, ‘I got my pills in my bathrobe and I put them in the people.”

The Interview, thanks to the controversy and mayhem surrounding it was of course a topic they just couldn’t let go and Margaret Cho proved to be the perfect accomplice. “Tonight we celebrate all the great television shows we know and love, as well as all the movies that North Korea was okay with,” was a dig that went down quite well with the crowd!
A serious note was struck too when George Clooney took the stage to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award. “They marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear,” said Clooney, referring to the marches in Paris in protest against the Charlie Hebdo attack. Several celebrities were seen lending their support to the Je Suis Charlie movement on the red carpet for the show too, posing with posters and even wearing badges.
Hilarious hosting, a celebration of achievements, and solidarity in the fight against evil – the Golden Globes this year indeed proved to be a unique show.

Are George Clooney and Amal Amaluddin Looking to Adopt Child from War-Torn Country?

Celebrities adopting children from war-torn and poverty-stricken countries isn’t anything news. Ask Angelina Jolie who may have been the first woman in the limelight to start off the trend. Now, however it has been reported that George Clooney and his newlywed Amal Alamuddin have plans to adopt a child from a war-torn country. Later however, a representative for the 53-year old actor said the story was “100% fabricated.”
It all began with a story in a magazine which quoted a source close to the couple saying how George and Amal were seriously planning to adopt a child from a war-torn region. “Over the past few years George has really changed his outlook on kids after seeing Brad Pitt and Matt Damon find their greatest happiness in becoming fathers,” the source was quoted saying. This led to a media avalanche and everyone who was even remotely interested in the actor’s life began talking of his plans to adopt, not to mention the media outlets that decided to stick to the story. The fact that Amaluddin is a human rights lawyer, and that Clooney too has done his bit for related causes, of course fueled these speculations.
As the news spread however, a representative of Clooney’s came forth and clarified that the newly married duo have not expressed any such intention and that the story was a fabricated one.

Oscar de la Renta Dies at the Age of 82

Haute couture fashion designer Oscar de la Renta died in his Connecticut home on Monday, October 20, 2014, due to complications from a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Annette, as well as his son, Moises, and three step-children.
A statement released by the family reads: “We write to let you know that Oscar passed away last night at home in Connecticut surrounded by family, friends and more than a few dogs. He died exactly as he lived: with tremendous grace, great dignity and very much on his own terms. While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us. Oscar’s hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company. All that we have done, and all that we will do, is informed by his values and his spirit. Through Oscar’s example we know the way forward. We will make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that Oscar loved so much.”
The legendary designer secured his position as an American icon by dressing Jacqueline Kennedy, helping her to create an image of sophisticated style that the former First Lady is still known for. Stating that “fashion is non-political and non-partisan,” his creations were worn by Michelle Obama, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Bush in addition to celebrities including Amy Adams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah Winfrey, Anne Hathaway, and Penelope Cruz.
The Dominican Republic-born de la Renta, who is said to be worth $100 million, most recently designed a wedding dress for Amal Alamuddin, who married actor George Clooney last month. The bride told Vogue that: “George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress. Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.”

Oscar de la Renta Dies at the Age of 82 by splashnews
De la Renta described his process of designing the wedding gown, saying: “It’s the most important dress in the life of a woman. Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted.”
Although the couturier to socialites and red-carpet king is gone at 82, brides-to-be can still snap up an Amal-inspired wedding gown. De la Renta included the dress in his bridal fall 2015 collection. While many mourn the man who epitomized high fashion and style, the man himself was more pragmatic, telling an audience at New York’s 92Y “Fashion Talks” series in June 2013: “The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life.”

George Clooney, Amal Alamuddin, Their Wedding and How They Met

Clad in a custom French lace wedding gown, designed by Oscar de la Renta, Amal Alamuddin, 36, wed Hollywood’s confirmed bachelor, George Clooney, 53, in a 30-minute ceremony on Sept. 27 in Italy. The intimate affair, held at the Aman Canal Grande Venice, was the culmination of three days of parties, and was attended by some 100 family members and friends.
The human rights lawyer and two-time Academy Award winner met about a year ago through a mutual friend at a charity fundraising event in Italy, but the Brit is said to have refused to take his number. Clooney was aware that Amal, who works at Doughty Street Chambers in London with clients like Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, and who is an adviser to Kofi Annan, a former UN secretary general, had recently been voted the hottest barrister in London by the blog ‘Your Barrister Boyfriend.’
The Golden Globe Award winning actor is reported to have sent the lawyer an email which read: “I think the reported hottest man in the world should meet with the hottest human rights lawyer in the world.”
The banter worked, and the relationship quickly became serious with the couple engaged by April. Clooney, an avowed bachelor who once described himself as a “lousy husband” and who swore off marriage after his 1993 split from his first wife of four years, Talia Balsam, shocked the world when the news of his engagement to Alamuddin became public.
His string of relationships with beautiful women is well known, having dated actresses, models and celebrities including Renee Zellweger, Kelly Preston, Stacy Keibler, Elisabetta Canalis, Lisa Snowdon and Sarah Larson, among others.
That commitment-phobe and womanizer reputation was cause for concern. In People magazine, a friend of Alamuddin, Jae Kim, is quoted as saying: “I have to admit, that caused some motherly panic. Is she going to get hurt? He isn’t exactly Mr. Commitment, I thought.”
She adds that Clooney’s behavior dispelled any doubts: “You could see in the way he held himself, treated her and others, and enjoyed life that his heart was big and he loved her with all of it.”
The attraction was mutual. Kim says her friend had wondered if “she would ever meet her partner in life.” The ‘Hottest Barrister in London’ title could make her seem even more intimidating than most men already found her to be, and then Alamuddin’s standards were so high, that they were nearly impossible to meet.
In the People magazine article, Kim is quoted as explaining: “The list of things she was looking for in this man, she readily admitted, could not realistically be found in one person. She was looking for Mr. Perfect, and he was nowhere to be found.”
Then along came George.
Alamuddin’s mother, Baria, may have expressed her daughter’s feelings perfectly in her speech at the wedding. An editor at Al-Hayat, an Arabic newspaper, she is quoted in People magazine as saying to the groom: “George, we love you truly, deeply and sincerely. We enjoy your charm, your wit, intelligent conversation and generosity. You are simply perfect.”
As for Clooney, the avowed bachelor? He tells People that marriage “feels pretty damn great.”

50’s Inspired Suits Make Statement in Hollywood

If you look around you, at recent celebrity-studded galas and red carpet events, you’ll see that the key source of men’s fashion inspiration is the streamlined look of The Fifties, and it’s a look being embraced by celebrities from NYC to Hollywood.

Justin Theroux, for instance, wore a slim lapel, two-button Dior Homme suit when he appeared on the red carpet with fiancee, Jennifer Aniston, at the June premiere in New York for his move, ‘The Leftovers.’ The 42-year-old actor updated the retro look slightly by opting for a gold pin instead of the usual skinny dark tie.

In bright blue at the LA premiere of The Rover last month, Robert Pattinson showcased a suit from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2014 collection with de riguer white shirt and skinny tie in dark navy. The nearly clean-shaven Twilight star paired his fitted two-button notch-lapel suit with a pair of patent-leather shoes.

It was late last year in New York City at the final premiere for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ when Liam Hemsworth was seen in a fashion forward Dior Homme blue wool serge suit. The actor looked impeccable in the micro-check classic two-button notch-lapel suit, with skinny tie and crisp, white shirt.

Always on-trend, David Beckham was in a white Ralph Lauren Black Label jacket, well-tailored black pants and a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes when he attended the Met Gala in New York in May with his wife, Victoria Beckham. The $25,000 per ticket fashion party hosted by Vogue editor, Anna Wintour, at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, was in fact a white tie event, but when you’re one-half of a super-power couple, you can wear a black bow tie, which is exactly what David Beckham did.

It can be difficult for men to stand out on the red carpet or at gala events, even in well-tailored suits, but the less-is-more approach of the fifties-inspired suits tends to make a confident style statement. Other celebrities who have been seen to embrace the look recently include Brad Pitt and George Clooney, although perhaps it was the always-classy George Clooney who inspired its come-back in the first place.
