How The Internet Rallied Behind Dancing Man

The Internet may be perceived as a platform where everyone’s life is open to ridicule and shame by haters and trolls. Equally true, however, is the fact that the Internet also makes heroes and celebrities out of the ordinary.
One such ordinary man, Sean O’Brien, a Merseysider who now lives in London, experienced the lows of first being ridiculed for trying to dance, despite his weight, and then the absolute highs of loads of users and even celebrities, joining the bandwagon to make him feel amazing! He is now known as The Dancing Man!
Cassandra Banks, a writer based in California, was among the first to reach out to Sean.

Then, Sean was eventually found!

It must have been difficult to say no to 1,727 “occasionally overly enthusiastic group of young women in California” who were willing to throw a party just for him!
Apart from the outpouring of support Sean has received from those all over the world, even his close friends and family have now begun to share their stories about how special a person Sean is. It’s all overwhelming even for us so we can only imagine how wonderful Sean must be feeling!
As for the dancing side of things, Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Cheryl Burke has offered to choreograph a special piece that will make Sean look amazing.

But the fun doesn’t end there either!
A special evening has been planned for Sean and the attendees and performers will include the who’s who of the entertainment industry including Pharrell Williams, Moby, Ellie Goulding, and the list is only growing.

Apart from the idea itself, over $30,000 has been collected through the campaign – money that will go towards an anti-bullying cause.
The Los Angeles Coliseum also opted to host the party.

Now this is a feel good story if we ever heard one!

Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Other Stars Strengthen Bono’s Ebola PSA

Sometimes, you don’t really need words to pass on a strong message, silence works just as well, if not better. The stars of Hollywood have proved this yet again. This time around, it isn’t for a role in a blockbuster either, but for a worthy cause – the fight against Ebola.
The organization ‘One’, co-founded by Bono, has unveiled a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that has a bevy of stars staring right into the camera, waiting for direct and adequate action against the deadly Ebola virus that is plaguing our world, especially Africa. The stares are deep and profound and even in the silence of those eyes, there’s a strong message that’s shouting out or the right steps against the disease.
Among the most prominent faces appearing in the Ebola PSA are Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Ellie Goulding, Thandie Newton, Danai Gurira, Akon, Connie Britton and Morgan Freeman. Even comedian Will Ferrell manages to keep a straight face, depicting the pain and anger those suffering from the disease must be going through.
African musicians Ice Prince, Angelique Kidjo, Fally Ipupa and Femi Kuti appear in the video too, as do health workers Dr. J. Soka Moses and Louise Gaye, representing the people who are taking the fight to Ebola on the ground.
‘One’, on its website, also has a petition you can sign up for, in support of the campaign that intends to wake up world leaders to the threatening disease, forcing them into action. “Ebola is devastating parts of West Africa. And every day we continue to wait – for funding to reach the ground, for nurses and doctors to be deployed, for the shattered medical services to be rebuilt – more people die. Tell world leaders it’s time to act,” goes the message on the page, urging people like us to support the petition. The aim is to gather at least 250,000 signatures in support of the campaign and the numbers are swelling each day, especially since the PSA came out.
Gurira, The Walking Dead actress says, “The waiting is causing the issue to propel itself. I thought it was a very powerful way to get that message across that we do need action. Sitting and waiting can lead to more problems.” The video certainly puts the point across, without the need for talk, except for the powerful written lines appearing at the right times. Michael Elliott, the CEO of the organization says, “We thought there was something extremely powerful in not having them say anything. We asked them to look into the camera, and we came up with just a few simple lines explaining that we’ve waited too long in the past, and we can’t wait too long in the future.”
Celebrities from Hollywood have often lent their voices to genuine causes. In this PSA, even their silence speaks just as strongly.
