The remake of French comedy Special Correspondents, is on its way and will star Ricky Gervais and Eric Bana. Gervais will also take on the roles of writer, director and producer of the film, bringing alive a storyline that has been recognized as among the finest the film industry has seen in recent times.
The story depicts the antics of a struggling radio journalist based out of New York, who in an attempt to revive his career and give it a necessary boost ends up faking reports on a rebel uprising in Ecuador. To make matters interesting, or worse, the journalist finally cooks up a story where he and his technician are kidnapped – all this when they are cooped up in the middle of Manhattan. To their surprise, the story plays out a little too well for their own good and with the matter getting out of hand, the two are eventually forced to give up their safe hiding place and sneak into Ecuador. While Eric Bana will play the main protagonist, Gervais will play his technician.
Chris Coen from Unanimous, Aaron L. Gilbert from Bron and Manuel Munz, who was also the producer for the original French version, have teamed up to form the production team while Jason Cloth and Larry Sanitsky from Creative Wealth are the executive producers. WME Global will manage the domestic rights to the movie while Protagonist Pictures will manage the international rights and introduction of the project to the American Film Market.
Ricky Gervais, co-director of The Invention of Lying and Cemetery Junction and star of ventures such as Muppets Most Wanted, The Office, Extras and Ghost Town, is also a famous standup comedian with four sellout tours to his credit. His awards list includes British Comedy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Emmy Awards, BAFTA Awards and a Rose d’Or.
Eric Bana is of course a well-recognized actor of his generation. Among his most memorable roles have been the ones he played in Troy, Chopper, Black Hawk Down, Munich, The Incredible Hulk, The Time Traveler’s Wife and recently, Hanna.
A brilliant storyline and proven veterans of the entertainment industry at the helm of the project make the remake of Special Correspondents a much-awaited film. Hope this one lives up to everyone’s expectations!
