Mel Brooks is all set to play the father of Dracula in Hotel Transylvania 2, joining a vocal star cast that boasts of names like Adam Sandler and even Selena Gomez.
The legendary comic will be heard through the character Vlad, the father of Count Dracula, voiced by Adam Sandler. The 3D animation adventure is a project Brooks has been waiting for too, thanks to his dream of working with Sandler, and is even happier that he got to do it on a horror comedy.
Speaking about the chance to work with Sandler, Brooks says, “He’s easy to play vocal ping-pong with. He’s very helpful in indicating there’s more than meets the eye here. There are some complicated feelings that should be expressed and he helped me with that.” His experience in horror comedies of course came in handy for his vocal role in the movie too, as did his age! “I had [Young Frankenstein and Dracula: Dead and Loving It] with me. And if I didn’t have to make it older because I’m almost 100, so I played out of my own voice. That Middle European Transylvanian sound is sweet, it’s cute, and if you believe in vampirism, it’s correct,” Brooks said. He loves the character too. “he’s been around for eons, and he’s a pretty crabby guy,” Brooks says of Vlad. “Basically, he reminds me of me.”
Mel Brooks may be playing Vlad and Adam Sandler his son Dracula, but the rest of the cast on Hotel Transylvania 2 isn’t too bad either. Andy Samberg lends his voice to the character Johnnystein, Selena Gomez to Mavis, Dracula’s daughter, David Spade to Griffin the Invisible Man and Kevin James to the character of Frank. Steve Buscemi, Keegan Michael-Key and Fran Drescher make up the rest of the cast.
Columbia Pictures is set to bring Hotel Transylvania 2 to theaters on 25th September 2015.
