The Harry Potter fever is still going strong and now, with news of JK Rowling wrapping up the screenplay for the spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, fans are sure to go crazy once again. The wait has been a long one after the last Potter movie hit theaters after all.
The movie is set to be a prequel to the Harry Potter franchise and follows the journey of Newt Scamander, an author of a textbook taught at Hogwarts, and his discovery of various magical creatures, which he eventually bases his book on. Potter and his friends study, though decades later, from this same book. The best part of the spinoff is that this one won’t stop with just one movie – it is a trilogy! David Yates, the same director who held away over the last four Harry Potter movies will direct Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them too, while the producer for the mother franchise, David Heyman, will also lead this one.
While JK Rowling’s prowess as a writer is well known, this is the first time the author has tried her hand at a screenplay. Of course, as expected, Rowling must have done a great job and Heyman confirms it. “Jo [Rowling] has written a wonderful script. She is so smart, and her turn of phrase, the precision of language she uses, is a joy to behold.” Talking about the movie, Heyman added, “It’s early stages. David Yates is directing and we start filming next year. I’m really excited about it.”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to spread its magic in theaters in November 2016.
