The Kickboxer remake already has a cast that can cause some serious damage in the fighting world. Yet, that one element that made the original movie a legendary one was missing all along. Radar Films has now set that right by roping in Jean Claude Van Damme!
Announcing the development, Ted Fields released a statement on behalf of the studio saying, “We are so excited to have Kickboxer roll into production and to have JCVD in the role of Master Chow, passing the torch to Alain, to have him lead the franchise to a new generation. Audiences better get ready for this incredible reboot. The action is going to be non-stop with never-before seen stunts. Simply put, Kickboxer will kick ass!”
Clearly, the excitement of getting in the one and only JCVD has got the studio excited. Now that Van Damme’s in, the other martial arts experts featured in the movie can be sure that the project will gain momentum as well as some extra popularity.
Interestingly, the cast of the movie boasts names from the comic book movie realm, including Dave Bautista from Guardians of the Galaxy, Georges St. Pierre from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Alain Moussi who handles Josh Helman’s more dangerous stunts in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The storyline of the Kickboxer remake has Alan Moussi play the part of Kurt Sloan, the main protagonist of the movie. The fighter is looking to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po, a character played by Dave Bautista. This is where JCVD steps in, teaching the young Sloan every trick of the trade as Master Chow.
The movie is will begin its shooting schedule in New Orleans before moving to Thailand, it’s expected to release sometime in 2016.
