Don Mancini Discusses Chucky 7 Shooting Location

Child’s Play is a horror franchise that is easily among the best contenders in its genre and when Don Mancini took over the line-up with Seed of Chucky, fans knew they were in for a treat of a different kind.
Soon, Bride of Chucky and then, Curse of Chucky proved that the franchise, although at a different level than the other Child’s Play works, has enough fuel in it to maybe go a few more sequels. Now, with Don Mancini reviving talks of Chucky 7, fans may well get ready for yet another nail-biting and horrifying experience, dished out by one of the scariest characters in horror history, and a doll nonetheless!

Taking to Twitter – a platform that has become a favorite for filmmakers to further stimulate an already hungry audience – Mancini sent across a rather casual tweet to Jennifer Tilly asking her if they should shoot Chucky 7 in Cape Town. Tilly wholeheartedly agreed to the idea, and then, Fiona Dourif got in on the conversation too.

Well, if this isn’t an indication of things to come, we don’t know what is! After all, when a location is being discussed, we all know things are all set to move forward. It has been exactly a year since Mancini spoke of how he was hard at work on the script for Chucky 7.

Even then, fans had got in on the morsel of news with absolute enthusiasm, praying hard that Mancini wraps up the scriptwriting phase soon and gets on with the rest of the schedule. Of course, they did have some inputs of their own too!

“@RealDonMancini @chuckylivesnet any way it could be Chucky V Freddy? @wescraven it would be awesome! #Texaslove” said one tweet from a fan while another said, “@RealDonMancini chuckylivesnet can alice actually be tiffany and chuckys kid some how they look alike?”

Now, we don’t know how far into his script Mancini was to entertain these ideas, or if he already had his own story laid out to work upon, but what we do know is that after the tremendous success of Curse of Chucky as well as the loads of positive critical reviews it received, the story line of Chucky 7 is bound to be an amazingly horrifying one too.

Of course, fans were also concerned about the current trend of reboots affecting the Child’s Play franchise too. However, thanks to Mancini and Universal’s own commitment to the franchise as well as belief that there is still some juice left in it for sequels, fans can at least breathe easy for now.

The last of the franchise had hit the horror audience at the Montreal Fantasia Festival on August 2nd 2013 followed by the Video on Demand platform on September 24th. The DVD and Blu Ray launch took place a couple of weeks later on October 8th and soon enough, this instalment was hailed as one of the best from Mancini.

Writing, directing as well as producing the film, Mancini did great in every department and Curse of Chucky soon came to be widely acclaimed as one of the best slasher films in history. At the Fantasia Festival, the film even bagged the Gold Award for Best International Feature. In fact, the tremendous response the movie received even had fans asking whether Universal had made a wrong move in not aiming this part of the franchise towards a theater-going audience.
Well, for now, we can’t wait for some more news on Chucky 7, and of course, we’ll keep you posted on every bit of news we come across on this dreaded doll and its bloody adventures!

Ava DuVernay Seals Disney Deal, Will Sidestep Oscars

Ava DuVernay, as a woman and as a member representing the black community, has indeed come a long way in her filmmaking journey in quite a short period of time, and now, the Selma director has bagged a deal with Disney – an adaptation of the Madelaine L’Engle novel, A Wrinkle in Time.
At the relatively young age of 43, and as a black woman no less, DuVernay has firmly established herself as an acclaimed director, screenwriter, as well as film marketer and distributor, gradually working her way up to the top of the ladder with I Will Follow, Middle of Nowhere and then the hit film, Selma. Now, with a Disney movie on the way, we are sure DuVernay is going to put her filmmaking skills to great use, considering the relatively higher budget that would be allocated to her from the studio.
The first novel of a trilogy from L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time, covers the story of the brother-sister duo of Meg and Charles Wallace, who along with their friend Calvin, travel through space in search of their father. The 1962 classic is a unique blend of a coming of age story coupled with interesting elements of time and space, and fans are hoping that the DuVernay led film does complete justice to the various aspects of an endearing story.

This isn’t the first time the L’Engle novel is being given the audio-visual treatment though. A 2003 television movie has preceded the current Disney project, although the Katie Stuart starred film turned out to be a drab affair. Back then, when asked if she had seen the movie, L’Engle commented, “I have glimpsed it. I expected it to be bad, and it is.” Well, with DuVernay at the helm, we are sure that L’Engle nor her fans would have any such complaints!
While this bit of news tops the filmmaking aspect of DuVernay’s life right now, she’s also busy voicing her opinion through participating in a cause that is set to help her community in a big way. Of course, the fact that she has chosen to participate in the Justice for Flint event rather than attending the Academy Awards – although she hasn’t officially boycotted the Oscars like some of her other black compatriots from the film fraternity – makes for a fair bit of headline news too.
The event, a free live gathering that is open to the public and already has a line-up of of various high profile celebrities as well, including Hannibal Duress, Jesse Williams, Janelle Monae and Ryan Coogler among others, is aimed at finding a solution to the water crisis that the residents of Flint, Michigan, are facing. The event is the brainchild of the group of activists Blackout for Human Rights, a body founded by Coogler.
“With the #JUSTICEFORFLINT benefit event we will give a voice to the members of the community who were the victims of the choices of people in power who are paid to protect them, as well as provide them with a night of entertainment, unity, and emotional healing,” a statement from Coogler said.
The date of the event coincides with the Academy Awards presentation ceremony and although many believe that the event deliberately clashes with the biggest night in the world of films, Coogler clarified that the date for the #JUSTICEFORFLINT event held significance in relation to the fact that it was being held on the last weekend of the Black History month.
Nevertheless, both DuVernay and Coogler have enough reason to boycott the Oscars, even if they are choosing not to do so on an official note as DuVernay’s Selma as well as Coogler’s Creed have both suffered neglect on the Academy Awards front.
Well, all this surely hasn’t stopped Ava DuVernay from making inroads into a fraternity that is widely accepted to be dominated by males and whites. The way this unique filmmaker is headed, we’re sure her work will wrench that Academy Award out of the hands of destiny soon enough! Will the Disney adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time prove to be the one?

Deadpool Is Rocking The Superhero Boat, In A Good Way!

Well before Deadpool hit the audience – through Ryan Reynolds, his sharp wit, perfect timing in the action as well as humor departments and of course, the entire gamut of extraordinary imperfections (?) that make up this superhero – we knew we were in for a different experience. Well, the film is out in theaters for a few days now, and boy, were we right!

As Wade Wilson, Reynolds seems to have found that one role that defines an actor, and one look at the character will tell you that although this particular actor doesn’t quite come across as a bad ass, he sure plays the role to perfection. A former Special Forces fighter turned mercenary who loves creating trouble wherever he goes, Wilson is the kind of guy who doesn’t really care what the world thinks of him, and cares much less of the world itself. All that soon changes when Vanessa Carlysle, played by Morena Baccarin, walks into his life igniting that flame of love, which has often proved to be the temporary bane of most superheroes. Except that Wilson hasn’t really transformed into a superhero just yet. First, he develops terminal cancer, discovering the disease in the later stages too, and then, in a bid to leave his lady love with sweet memories, walks out of her life and into a shady experimental lab that promises to give him extraordinary abilities.

Well, this is easier said than done, especially with Wilson’s wit trying everyone’s patience. In come Ajax and Angel Dust, played by Ed Skrein and Gina Carano, and with Wilson challenging their too-huge-for-anything-friendly egos, he sure gets into trouble. Ajax deliberately troubles Wilson, although his moves are justified by the experiment’s need to activate the dormant mutant powers given to Wilson through extreme stress. Well, the last resort by Ajax turns the handsome Wilson into a hideous being (avocados doing non-avocadoesque things to each other is one comparison mentioned in the movie) and after a fight that has Ajax believe that the subject of his experiment is dead, the cycle of revenge begins.

This revenge is of a different kind though. Ajax has told Wilson that he is the only one who can cure the new superhero of his hideousness, except that he has been kidding about it, something which the awkwardly christened Deadpool learns at the very end. Eventually, the superhero finds that his lady love is still his, in spite of his own good looks deserting him, and with loads of action and humor in between, the movie draws to a rather mushy close. Well, we’ve only left out the parts “in between” because there’s no way you would want to get those details except on the big screen!

As Deadpool, Reynolds delivers in more ways than one, and his steady persuasion in accepting a character who is just like one of us, and speaking the same language too, eventually grows on you. A few minutes into the movie, you will stop seeing this character as a faraway non-realistic one. You will begin seeing him as a nasty friend of yours who has managed to imbibe some nastier superpowers. Oh, and this guy actually looks at the camera and talks to you, so that helps in developing that connection too!

There’s help at hand for Deadpool of course, and in pairs too. In his personal life, Weasel, played by TJ Miller, and Blind Al, played by Leslie Uggams, provide the antihero some support while on the superhero front, two characters from the X-Men house, Colossus, played by Stefan Kapicic, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, played by Brianna Hildebrand, offer a mix of admonishment as well as some climax-worthy backing. At the box office, Deadpool has done complete justice to its extraordinary mix of crass, even tasteless humor, and some excellent action sequences. Of course, the high quotients of reluctant camaraderie and love help too!

Released on February 12th across North America, Deadpool had already raked in a cool $163.8 million in this territory alone, as the night of February 16th fell. The total worldwide collections only four days into its sporadic release across the globe had already touched a whopping $153 million, bringing the total to an impressive $316.8 million. Of course, it is still going strong with notable openings across markets, making all those at Fox as well as director Tim Miller very happy people.

The biggest 20th Century Fox opening, the biggest R-rated opening weekend, the biggest January/February opening and the biggest feature directorial debut are only some of the records Deadpool has raked in along the way.

We know the movie deserves all this and more, because we just didn’t want to it to end! That’s how good Ryan Reynolds and his clan of actors are in the movie, and that’s how good the direction and dialogue-writing was. Well, we’re sure glad there’s a sequel that has already been approved, but more on that later!

Strange Magic: Strange, And Not So Magical!

After the Disney hit animated movie Frozen with its theme based on love and sisterly bonds, director Gary Rydstrom didn’t lose a lot of time to get another project onto the screens, the 2015 animated movie Strange Magic, which is inspired by William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Writer George Lucas, made widely popular as the creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchise creates this magical story filled with goblins and elves, although the project does seem to lack magic on several fronts.

Strange Magic is a film that has a musical theme to it where characters seem to be sing every 5 minutes while trying to explain their feelings and emotions and most of the songs sung by the characters are popular pop songs from the 60s.
Right from the famous Elvis Presley’s hit Can’t Help Falling In Love to Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, Strange Magic has a combination of various genres and singers of the past. While many critics found the songs annoying, noisy and unappealing, a part of the audience did seem to enjoy reminiscing about the past.

The films screenplay has been written by David Berenbaum and Irener Mecchi along with director and Academy Award veteran Gary Rydstrom. Filled with a happy musical theme with a lot of colour and vibrancy, the makers have ensured that the characters appeal to the younger audience, revolving around an imaginary realm which is divided between the fairies and the creatures living in the bog. When one takes a broader perspective, the entire canvas comes across as a division between light and darkness.

Fairy princesses Marianne and Dawn are the main characters of the movie, with both sisters polar opposites of each other right from their personality to their way of dressing. Marianne (Evan Rachel Wood), supposed to marry fairy king Roland (Sam Palladio) calls off these plans at the last moment when she finds out about his infidelity. It was at this point that she undergoes a complete transformation to a bitter and powerful warrior princess who has stopped believing in love.

On the other hand her sister Dawn (Meredith Anne Bull) is a portrayed as a stereotypical blonde who is flirtatious, optimistic and wants to fall in love, line that is in complete contrast of her sister. This however, isn’t the only twist to the story, Dawn’s best friend Sunny (Elijah Kelley) coincidently is in love with her but then gets manipulated by Roland and goes in search of the Sugar Plum Fairy (Kristin Chenoweth) who helps him with a love potion. His return with the love potion, the sudden appearance of the Bog King (Allan Cumming), and the spell that the Bog King casts on the leading lady of the story line takes care of the rest of the plot.

Sounds confusing already? Well, this is only one of the drawbacks that Strange Magic holds. Amidst the confusing story line and the annoying continuous singing of Dawn, even when the plot doesn’t really ask her to, the theme that Lucas wishes to portray, that of finding beauty in strange places and the age old adage that beauty is skin deep somehow gets lost.

Over all, the story seems like a buyable one and the depth in the characters as well as the high quality of CGI animation does make the film bankable up to a certain extent. At the end of it however, one feels that the singing bits were a tad too much and the presence of too many characters do make the story complicated and messy. Like its title, the audience surely found the movie strange, although unappealing and in spite of the word magical in it, not many would be convinced that the makers managed to weave enough of it!

At the end of it all, Strange Magic is indeed a strange mix of comedy and music and it received some box office punishment in accordance with its content, grossing only $5.5 million, which is incidentally amongst the lowest among the animation films lot of the studio. The verdict? If it is a soppy romance with a musical theme and a combination of stories from various Disney films that you seek, Strange Magic is indeed the movie for you!

Movies You May have Missed: The Drop

The Drop is an American crime drama that was released for screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. The Fox Searchlight Pictures film was later released in theatres in September 2014. The film is based on author Dennis Lehane’s 2009 screenplay Animal Rescue. Lehane later converted the screenplay into a novel by the name The Drop which was later adapted into a feature film of the same name.

Dennis Lehane is an excellent author and many of his novels have been adapted into films. Shutter Island, Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone are some such excellent crime fiction and thriller adaptations.
And while The Drop is an enticing crime drama film, most believe that Lehane has unreasonably stretched out this short screenplay to make it into a film. However, despite having to endure this accusation that he has stretched out the plot beyond normal measure, Lehane has been successful in creating one of his best films yet.

The film has actors Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini starring in the main roles, with Hardy contributing his excellent showmanship in yet another brilliant portrayal of a challenging character. This movie is a memorable one for James Gandolfini’s fans too, as his work in The Drop was the chubby and lovable Gandolfini’s final performance before his unfortunate death in June 2013.

Tom Hardy plays the role of Bob, who is a pleasant guy, working as a bartender at his obnoxious cousin Marv’s bar. The late Gandolfini plays the role of Marv in the film. Marv’s bar is used as a “drop” point for the Chechens gang to store their illegal cash, to be collected later. When the bar is raided by two masked men and the illegal “drops” are stolen, Marv, Bob and the bar come under close scrutiny by both, the Chechens as well as the cops.

Hardy’s sympathetic role cannot be taken for granted as this is what gives the movie its piquant twist. As part of the storyline and in line with his character, he finds an abused abandoned pit bull pup in a garbage can and starts to care for it with some guidance on pet care from Nadia. Nadia is played by Noomi Rapace. Bob later learns that both, Nadia and the pup, belonged to a person named Eric Deeds, who was a psychiatric patient. Deeds’ role is played by Bullhead’s Matthias Schoenaerts.

The roles of Matthias Schoenaerts, John Ortiz and Noomi Rapace lend the movie the perfect blend of a talented cast, with each of their characteristics lending the film a certain hue. But it is Hardy’s performance that takes the cake here, especially when there is a sudden unexpected change in his character, and undoubtedly, in the scenes where he is seen adorably nuzzling the pup.

There are a truckload of crime drama movies in the film industry, but The Drop is easily one of the best crime thriller films in its category and is celebrated for its amazing script and direction. Created with a budget of $12.6 million, the film was a relative success in theatres and grossing a total of $18.7 million worldwide, also went on to receive widespread critical acclaim.
This film is Belgian director Michael R. Roskam’s first American feature film. Roskam is celebrated for his short stories and short films that have been nominated and won various awards. With a bold cast and an impressive storyline, Roskam has earned quite a welcome by thriller film aficionados. Lehane and Roskam’s partnership in the creation of The Drop is definitely a fruitful one and we’re hoping that the duo will come together more often to create such thrilling films for an eager audience.

Jem And The Holograms: A Peek

With the wide array of musical films being released over the last few decades, Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms stands out with an identity of its own. Based on the famous TV series by the same name and written by Ryan Landels, this movie envelopes various aspects of life including talent, family, bonding, inspiration and destiny. All of this in one well-rounded entertainment package!

With other musical films, such as Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, Universal Studios presents Jem and the Holograms, directed by Jon M. Chu. With movies like Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D under his wings, Chu is the perfect director for the creation of this musical film.
Chu has often been questioned on his choice of directing movies with music and dance in them. To this Chu responds that he thinks of dancers as amazing artists and he draws his inspiration from them. Dance motivates him to direct movies in the musical genre. Starring Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, Juliette Lewis and Ryan Guzman, this star-studded flick is a must watch!

The trailer for the musical film Jem and the Holograms covers glimpses of the life Jerrica Benton, a teenage songwriter who finds inspiration and hope from her sisters to showcase her talent and make the right decisions in life. Living with her younger sister Kimber, two foster sisters, Shana and Aja and her Aunt Bailey; Jerrica has always been camera shy and never wanted to showcase her talent. She believes in having a secret identity and hence, under the disguise of “Jem” records one of her songs on her sister Kimber’s camera. Kimber sees the recording and finds it too special to keep it to herself, so she shares the video online and it goes viral, attracting millions of views.

Eventually, Jerrica receives an offer from the world’s most successful recording company, Starlight Productions. Jerrica is skeptical at first, but when her Aunt Bailey quotes Jerrica’s father’s words, “There are some voices too special to keep in,” Jerrica decides to move forward and live her dream.

She, along with her sisters, moves to LA. The group meets Starlight Productions’ manager Erica Raymond and is introduced to the world of showbiz. With a new and trendy look, each of the four sisters goes on to live their life as a group of famous singers.

Shortly afterwards, Jerrica’s aunt calls her to inform her that their house is going to be auctioned. Jerrica tries to save her home by requesting Erica for an advance, to which Erica convinces her to sign a solo album contract. Jerrica does this for her sisters and her aunt, but the entire situation is misjudged by her sisters who think that Jerrica wants to become famous all by herself.

The plot unfolds with the truth being revealed. The sisters eventually stay together and Erica is fired from Starlight Productions.

There is one special character in the film whose role is not revealed in the trailer. This is an adorable little robot, 51N3RG.Y (pronounces as ‘Synergy’), built by Jerrica’s deceased father. The sisters find it only to be shown some hologram video clips of Jerrica’s father and his message to his Jem. This is where the word ‘holograms’, in the film’s title, appears from.

Created with a humble budget of just around $5 million, and including special moments related to family, love and sacrifice, this movie is a great piece of entertainment for people of all ages. So the next time you wish to treat your family with a wholesome entertainer, make sure you treat them to Jem and the Holograms!

The Friends Cast Is Sort Of Getting Back Together

A Friends reunion is probably the one wish that almost all of us hold in our hearts, and although we have been told time and again that such a phenomenon is far from coming true, we still haven’t lost hope! Well, this time around, this wish of ours is coming true up to a certain extent.

No, we do not mean a reunion episode of Friends, all we are getting is a coming together of the different cast members for one purpose – honoring famed director James Burrows, the man who also happened to direct 15 of their sitcom’s episodes. Of course, Burrows now has the distinction of directing a whopping 1000 sitcom episodes, in honor of which milestone NBC is hosting the special event.
While Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Mathew Perry and Matt LeBlanc had been the one thing we just couldn’t do without during the Friends years, and then years after too, thanks to the many reruns we were treated too. However, whenever talk of a possible reunion came up, we only had to face disappointment. Now, even though this isn’t the reunion we have been praying for, we will at least see all the cast members on one platform!

For starters, even though this bit of news makes it sound like this event is all about the Friends cast getting back together, the fact is that this one’s all about Burrows and his amazing achievements on the television front. After all, how could you ignore the fact that this man has directed a phenomenal 1000 episodes of sitcoms! Burrows crossed this mark in November last year while directing an episode for Crowded and NBC decided that this accomplishment deserved some star-studded applause.

Therefore, the network is bringing back together the cast members of some the most landmark sitcoms that Burrows has directed. Along with the Friends cast, that is clearly hogging the limelight, the casts of Mike & Molly, The Big Bang Theory, Frasier, Will & Grace, Taxi and Cheers are also expected to star in the telecast. The special two-hour event will be aired on February 21st and the taping is set to begin soon.

As for whether the cast members of our favorite show will even have to be in the same room to tape their bit of the show? Even the Entertainment Chairman for NBC, Robert Greenblatt has his doubts. “I’m hoping all six will be in same room at same time. I’m not sure we can logistically pull it off.”

Well, we will at least be seeing them all together on a single screen talking about the same things – and maybe even reminiscing the good old days on the Friends sets. And who know, all that reminiscing may even prompt them all to star in a real reunion episode, with Burrows directing them!

Oh there we go on our Friends reunion episode dream again. But honestly, for now, we can’t really ask for more than what we are getting! Thank you James Burrows, and congratulations on an amazing career!

The Incredibles 2 Has Brad Bird At The Helm

With the success of the 2004 animated film, The Incredibles, director Brad Bird is all in for the creation of The Incredibles 2. While the release date for the film may not still be in sight – the movie is set for release only in 2019 – the making of the film is in full swing. Disney announced earlier last year about the making of a sequel for The Incredibles and what better person than Brad Bird, the Academy Award winner in the Best Animated Feature Film category, to be directing this sequel.

With award winning animated films such as Ratatouille, and The Incredibles in his lineup, Bird has set himself up for quite a challenge and we’re sure The Incredibles 2 is going to be nothing less than perfect! After having worked with Disney, Bird joined Pixar and contributed his excellence in the field of animation towards his Academy Award winning films The Incredibles in 2004 and Ratatouille in 2007 and each of these movies proved his expertise in the genre.

Bird is also credited for being the co-writer for Ratatouille. During the making of Ratatouille, which started in 2000, seven years before its release, Bird went to great extents to ensure that the movie was impeccably spooled out. He, along with his team, actually travelled to Paris, to get a feel of the life and learn more about the people. They conferred with French and American chefs to get a better insight into the food preparations and display, and this helped them when they worked on the animated creation of the exotic dishes. And that’s not all! Bird even took up an internship at a restaurant called Thomas Keller’s French Laundry. This is where he developed the idea of using the traditional French dish ‘Ratatouille’, in a more varied form.

Ratatouille was a huge success, drawing in revenue of over 623 million worldwide. However, his 2004 release, The Incredibles was a bigger success and grossed more than 630 million on the financial front. As for the professional recognition the movie received, The Incredibles landed two well-deserved Oscars, along with its fair share of wholehearted from audiences from across the globe.

With the re-release of another of his works, the 1999 debut movie The Iron Giant, Bird is simultaneously working on The Incredibles 2. At the moment, Bird is said to be working with a small team on the script and creation of the film. He believes that until the entire script is finalized and every aspect of the movie is clear in sight, it is best to work with a small sized team so as to keep tabs on the progress and quick development. He prides himself on the creation of the original Incredibles film that bagged two Academy Awards and was the first completely animated film to acquire the Hugo Award in the category of Best Dramatic Presentation.

The Academy Award winning director has not disclosed even an inch of the plot, however, he has let out a little secret; that the film will be way different from the billions of superhero movies that have been released since The Incredibles in 2004. He claims to have initially wanted to include a number of scenes and interesting ideas in The Incredibles; however, due to lack of time, he had to hold back to those ideas. Now that he has the time and expertise gained over the years in animation, Bird is said to be going ahead with the utilization of those ideas, along with newer and more interesting concepts, all featured in the sequel. Bird is quite serious about the approach towards the making of this film, so we can rest assured that it will be worth the wait!

We’ve even heard it through the grapevine that Bird has even had discussions with Kathleen Kennedy from Lucasfilm to examine the possibility of him being involved in the direction of a Star Wars movie. But as he has his mind set on the creation of his The Incredibles 2 movie, he plans to keep all other possible opportunities on the shelf. Vigilante aficionados can rest assured that with Bird at the helm of creating this family dynamic superhero film, it is bound to entertain, enthuse and excite.

Will Vin Diesel’s The Iron Giant Hit Theaters Again?

In a recent Facebook post, Vin Diesel teased about Warner Bros. coming up with a sequel to the award winning animated film The Iron Giant. The re-release of the film titled The Iron Giant- Signature Edition was followed by the film being released on Blu-ray. 16 years after its original release, this film hit theatres, making fans go flocking to watch the re-released version. And while Diesel has most f his films stretched into sequels, there is a high possibility of The Iron Giant having its own sequel too.

Vin Diesel was the voice for the friendly giant robot in the 1999 release of the film. Not much can be said about a sequel in the making other than the fact that Vin Diesel may have spilled the beans too soon. While Diesel is quite busy with numerous other films in the making, Iron Giant 2 just may be one of them. Director Brad Bird had a signature edition of the film released to celebrate and mark its influence on modern animated movie making.

And even though his original film wasn’t nominated for the crème de la crème on the awards list, it won bigtime on the Annie Awards front with nine in the kitty. The film did not fare well at the box-office though. Most experts in the industry felt that this was due to the unimpressive marketing that was done at the time of the film’s original release. So while The Iron Giant was created with a budget of around $70 to $80 million, it however managed to recover only $31.3 million.
The Warner Bros. and Fathom Events re-release of the animated classic film may see a sequel on the horizon. Director Brad Bird is currently involved in the making of other films; however, if the news of the Giant sequel is true, then there is no better director than Bird to create this masterpiece. Having given his voice for the giant robot in The Iron Giant, Vin Diesel is likely to be the voice for the sequel too.

In his Facebook post, Diesel has commented on how lucky he is for having played the many interesting characters, confirming that his first and favorite character is that of the Iron Giant. This comment was followed by a statement that there wouldn’t be any surprise if WB announced a sequel for the giant flick.

The Iron Giant was director Brad Bird’s directorial debut, following which he ventured into films such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland. The Iron Giant is a story about a gigantic metal robot that befriends a little boy Hogarth Hughes (voiced by Eli Marienthal). Vin Diesel was not a very well-known actor at the time of the original film’s release. It was only after the release of Diesel’s The Fast and The Furious, did people start to known and admire his work. While working on The Iron Giant, Vin Diesel only had a few couple-word dialogues, which he spoke throughout the movie. If the news of a sequel is real, we are hoping that the actor will have more dialogues this time.

Brad Bird may not be able to comment on the news shared by Vin Diesel as he has his hands full in the making of his film The Incredibles 2. So even if Diesel’s news has some truth to it, it would be rather long before we actually see anything actually developing on The Iron Giant front.

The original cast of the film included talented actors such as Diesel, Jennifer Aniston, Christopher McDonald and Harry Connick Jr. If The Iron Giant 2 was created, we wonder if Bird would re-cast the same actors. Also, the young boy, Hogarth Hughes’, voice was given by Eli Marienthal who was 13 years old in 1999, at the time of the film. If the sequel is made keeping in mind the number of years that has passed, will Eli Marienthal be casted for voice of Hogarth? Guess we’ll just have to wait and watch.

In the meantime, we are hoping to get some legitimacy on Vin Diesel’s post and we will surely keep our eyes open for some more news from The Fast and The Furious actor in the form of Facebook updates, Twitter posts or any other social media. Of course, we will let you in on any news we get!

Marvel Civil War- What We Know So Far

With the release of the undisputed hits The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-man, the year 2015 was nothing less than a blissful success for Marvel Studios. However, with the rise in vigilante aficionados, Marvel is constantly challenged to deliver more action and entertainment than their previous productions.
Will they stand up to their reputation of creating movies with heroes that not only entertain, but keep the audience at the edge of their seats? Let 2016 decide. The news is that Marvel Studios will be releasing their next action picture this year; and this time, their flick comes with a whole new twist. The new Marvel release is Captain America 3 and is titled Captain America: Civil War. Loaded with the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes, this film promises an action packed entertainment for people of all ages.

In short, the movie revolves around a problem that disrupts the existence and purpose of these masked and costumed vigilantes. There is a clash among the heroes and MCU fans can expect a showdown between Iron Man, Tony Stark and Captain America, Steve Rogers. The movie includes the entire star cast from The Avengers: Age of Ultron. The only two characters missing in this MCU installment are Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth.

With a gripping storyline and a major ensemble of star cast, Captain America 3 is bound to be Marvel Studios greatest creation to date. Based on the Marvel Comic Civil War, written by Mark Millar, the script of the movie is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley. Markus and McFeeley are perfect for the creation of the script as they wrote the first two prequels, Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Two ended with the close of Age of Ultron. Civil War will be MCU’s first movie in Phase Three. The movie’s expected release dates are 29th April 2016 in the U.K. and May 6th 2016 in the U.S. The shooting of Civil War began in the month of May in Atlanta, Georgia.  Some of the movie scenes have been shot in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland as well.

The storyline is about the passing of a Superhero Registration Act by the government in order to regulate the activities of the masked vigilantes; after another one of the Avengers’ international incidents ends in extensive collateral damage. The government decides to create a governing body that will regulate and determine the requirement of the Avengers’ services to safeguard humanity. Steve Rogers is opposed to this idea while Tony Stark supports it.

This sends the two heroes in different directions, amassing allies of their own to get into a head-on battle. This new decision leaves the Avengers in a fix as they are restricted in their attempt to save the world from a despicable villain. A rumor about Civil War, that has been circulating the grapevine and is quite a possibility, is that Rogers may be killed or may hand the shield to Bucky in the end of the film. ‘How’ and ‘why’ is yet a mystery.

With the undeniable success of the previous Captain America film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are all set to get behind the camera on this Marvel installment. They have encompassed a whole bunch of stars including Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlet Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd and Chadwick Boseman.

Boseman will star as Black Panther, a new vigilante added to the Civil War canvas, so as to give the entire plot a freshman’s view. Black Panther wasn’t featured in any of the previous Captain America movies. Marvel and producer Kevin Feige believe that his point of view, in the film, will be fresh and will stand alone; rather than side with that of Captain America or Iron Man. Certain stars, or action heroes, who will not make an appearance in Civil War are Hulk’s alter ego Bruce Banner, Thor and Nick Fury.

This 2016 Marvel Studios flick is definitely creating quite a buzz before its release. The plot may have been disclosed to some extent, but the details of the actual script and the larger-than-life cast has Marvel fans eagerly awaiting the film’s release in theatres.

Doctor Strange: News and Predictions

In less than a year, on November 4th, 2016, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will envelop our world with the sorcery and enigmatic realm of Doctor Strange. Now, although all the magic in the world cannot help us fast-forward ourselves to this date, nor pre-pone this date for the sake of satisfying our curiosities earlier, what we can definitely do is bring to you all the news – as well as rumors and predictions – associated with the project that we can lay our hands on. So, here we go!

Based on the Marvel Comics superhero Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange aka Doctor Strange, the news for this Marvel Studios live action film first began doing the rounds in January 2013 when Kevin Feige spoke of how the character of Doctor Strange was among the strongest contenders in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Doctor Strange, which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have. He’s totally different from anything else we have, just like Guardians Of The Galaxy,” said Feige.

A year and a half later, in June the next year, Feige’s predictions came true when Scott Derrickson announced through Twitter that Doctor Strange was indeed in the works and that two actors, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy were being considered for the main role. This was to be the 14th film to be set in motion by Marvel Studios as part of their grand plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, we all know how that particular match-up between Hardy and Cumberbatch turned out! By October, it was revealed that Cumberbatch had been zeroed in upon to play the role of one of the most complicated characters in the Marvel Universe and on December 4th, Cumberbatch’s election as the new Doctor Strange was finalized and officially announced.

Cumberbatch, who even spent some time teaching at a Buddhist monastery in Darjeeling, India in preparation for his role as Stephen Strange, has often spoken of the spiritual side of the character as the element that appealed to him the most. “I’m very excited about that spiritual dimension. It’s something that’s been a huge part of my life. I meditate a lot, that’s a huge tool in trying to calm myself, get away from the crazy circus of it all, have a focused mind as well as be a kinder, considerate person in the world,” Cumberbatch said.

In another huge casting move, rumors of Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton’s involvement with the film began doing the rounds and in June 2015, within days of each other, the casting of Ejiofor as Baron Karl Mordo and Swinton as the Ancient One was confirmed.

Swinton’s portrayal of the Ancient One came as a surprise to many, especially since the character is portrayed by an old man in the Doctor Strange lineup of comics. “I’m a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I’m really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what’s done in this particular world. It’s all about creativity. It’s not about everything exploding at the end. It’s about something very different,” Swinton said of the project.

Soon, the casting list, under Sarah Finn’s able guidance, grew considerably with Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg and Neve Gachev adding to the lineup of talented actors.

The core crew too was in place, with Derrickson in the director’s chair, Steve Ditko, Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Jon Spaihts taking care of the writing department and Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Charles Newirth, Alan Fine and Louis D’Esposito making up the team of executive producers with Kevin Feige as producer. With Ben Davis handling the cinematography and Wyatt Smith the editing, Doctor Strange was finally on a roll!

Now, in the latest on the film, the on-location images and videos of a few Doctor Strange sets in Nepal in Asia have brought about quite a few surprising elements to the fore, including those of a bearded Cumberbatch roaming the streets of the Himalayan kingdom with Ejiofor in tow. Fans and tourists have contributed heavily to the lineup of photos and they certainly make for interesting viewing. One sequence even seems to be that of a sorcerer’s ritual!

While the filming sequences in Nepal certainly look interesting, the majority of the filming schedule is set to be completed at Pinewood-Shepperton and Shepperton Studios in the UK and although this will be completely under wraps and not as exposed as the filming in Nepal, we will strive to bring you more news and leaks! So, hang on for more on Doctor Strange!

A Glimpse At The New Batman V. Superman Trailer

Many movie followers will probably agree that the official trailer of the newest Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice does not keep a lot of secrets from them. The beginning scene sets the tone of the overall movie of these two newcomers to this cinematic shared universe and comes to an end with the introduction of the threat that will actually come at the end of the movie while being sprinkled by numerous telling shots all through.
The movie, which will be on show on 25th March, 2016 is tantalizing and different from the previous versions, at least according to the trailer. Even though most of the action is focused in the introduction of the conflict of Batman and Bruce Wayne to a Man of Steel world, some scenes show Wonder Woman flaunting her shield against some sort of attack. The trailer begins with Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne in a deep conversation about their differing egos and are momentarily interrupted by Lex Luthor (played by Jesse Eisenberg).

This is followed by various scenes of Batman and Superman with their different side of arguments. In one scene, Superman is shown appearing before Congress to present his case about the consequences that maybe experienced after the upcoming battle after Man of Steel. For instance, there is a scene of a plane crashing into a building right on Fort Street, as well as a memorial of the people who died during the Battle of Metropolis. There is also a scene of Superman fighting Batman with a sonic gun while the epic Batwing flies at Superman.

With Batman failing to defeat Superman, Lex Luthor sends his personally made creature from the corpse of General Zod to deal with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. This is a creature that follows the scriptures of the comic book, Doomsday, but that is according to widespread online rumors.
While the trailer of the almost released Star Wars: The Force Awakens was dogged by complaints of being too secretive, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is too open and somehow shocking, especially to the fans who were not expecting such revelations.
